Participatory 3D mapping (P3DM) is a collaborative approach that engages local communities in creating detailed, three-dimensional models of their environment – IAPAD](http://www.iapad.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/icimod3Dmanual16.pdf). This method combines modern cartographic tools with traditional knowledge, allowing communities to visually represent their spatial information and resources. In Nepal, we have been using P3DM to help mountain communities better understand and manage their natural resources.

By involving community members in the mapping process, P3DM fosters a sense of ownership and empowerment, ensuring that the resulting maps accurately reflect the collective knowledge and priorities of the community. These maps can be used for various purposes, including disaster risk management, land use planning, and natural resource management. The participatory nature of P3DM also promotes transparency and inclusivity, making it a valuable tool for community development and environmental conservation.
